Incorporate a systematic yet playful approach to understanding our body’s unique needs. Combining yoga, movement and breath to help to address tensions and imbalances in the body, we can move away from what’s wrong and see, with an open heart, our inherent health. The approach to Yoga that James teaches is based on Vanda Scaravelli’s approach to practice—minimizing effort revolutionizes the way we approach our experience in asana.

The yoga of Vanda Scaravelli, an Italian woman who studied with J Krishnamurti, BKS Iyengar and TKV Desikachar for 2 decades, combines a detailed physiological understanding with an attempt to experientially align with the natural forces of the breath and gravity.
Founded on a detailed understanding of living anatomy and physiology, the approach is a creative exploration into mind/body awareness. By awakening the spine through an intelligent practice, practictioners will learn how to go with the body rather than against it. Participants will learn about the process of balancing letting go with activity in the postures, from where the mental, spiritual and energetic aspects of the practice become apparent. Hands on adjustments are used to bring greater degrees of understanding of the integration and freedom possible in the body. Practitioners will be taught to explore the ability of these practices to shift perception and connect the practitioner with their essence.

Deep within us lives a vast liveliness of our masculine and feminine siva/shakti spirit waiting to manifest. This expression is divinely recognized through Tantra—an ancient way of being totally engaged in the fullness of life through the senses. Tantra is the Yogic practice of the body. Translated it means “liberation and expansion.” Learn a brief history of traditions and principles, sample Tantric pranic breathing and energy techniques that facilitate connecting to one’s inner core. In a safe and supportive space, students will be guided though a variety of rich experiences, movements and rhythms associated with Chakra energies. These processes assist in revealing the god/goddess within and our universal connection with one another.
